First Payment Changes and We Cancelled the Extra House

So you all have probably gotten the scoop from Eric already, but since I made this darn blog I’ll update it like a good girl.

Elizabeth and Ian are officially out, mainly because of the baby. We haven’t heard from Greg, so we’ll consider that a no-go. My friends, not surprisingly, aren’t going. So, we cancelled Looney Dunes and we are officially staying at The Shipyard.

Some things have changed, however: the first payment WILL NOT be due in a week or two. Although their website has not yet been changed, OIA is changing their rental policies for 2007. Eric and I paid a holding fee to reserve the house for next summer, which replaced the whole pay-half-immediately thing. We will not get our first bill until sometime after Thanksgiving. In fact, we were told not to expect it until December or January. So, the first payment won’t be due for several months. The second payment will still be due next summer. Go spend that money on hookers and drugs like you wanted to!

We’ll be renting one car to get us from Wilmington to OKI, and Aaron is going to hook that into the travel agent he’s using for his wedding. Yay discount! That cost will be communicated later, and will be split between the five or six of us flying from KC. If you want a rough idea of how much it’ll be, the best I can tell you is that the discount sites like Travelocity are putting it at a little over $200 for the week. I don’t know how much less it’ll be with the travel agent’s discount.

We’ll give you guys a head’s up about flights later on. The ideal flight would leave KC about 7am and get into Wilmington around noon or 1pm, putting us in OKI about 2 or 3pm. That’s just FYI in case you have a hot potato to go ahead and reserve a flight. I’ve heard from John and Erin that they’d like to do that in a couple of months, so we can all do it together if you guys want. I personally am going to work on my machine that will just beam me there.

Well, that’s it for now.

It Is Finished!

Whew; big sigh of relief. It’s been a stressful 24 hours! What a race against time. As soon as we could come up with a house we liked, it was unavailable! OKI hasn’t ever been this difficult, but of course we’ve never had an inflexible date before.

We have reserved two houses, and we will cancel one when we get our final numbers.
As it stands right now, our house is The Shipyard. I think it’s pretty fly. Can't you just see yourself fixing a drink at the bar and playing games at the table? Or waking up and having coffee on the deck while the bitches (that is, Dave, John and Eric) make everyone breakfast? It will cost $260+taxes/fees per person with the seven we have right now. The first payment will be $150.

If we get a definite yes from Greg and his guest or Elizabeth and Ian, our house will be Looney Dunes. It will cost $255+taxes/fees per person. The first payment would also be $150.

Well, now that the sucky work part of this is over...WHOO HOO! It's all fun and games now children!

In two weeks, we'll know for sure about the other invitees. Eric and I will then get the final tax/fee included totals from OIA, and figure up the second payment. Not that it matters, since it's not due for a freaking year. We'll then figure out the cheapest flights, and talk to Aaron's travel agent about the car rental(s). I'm just ready to have the plans made so I can sit back, relax, and wait for OKI 4!

Hey, someone put pictures on this blog! I'm a girl so I can't figure it out, and it looks blah!

Status as of 8/01/06

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY...we find out at 4pm CST if we get Sea Mist or not. Eric and I have looked at other 5-bedrooms as Sea Mist alternates. If Sea Mist is unavailable, I'll post those for you tomorrow. Basically, Sea Mist is not rented for our week as of right now. Every other week is rented, so it's a bit of a panic to make sure we can get this house. The people who are in it this week have until 5pm Eastern tomorrow to reserve the house for the same week next year. If they don't, then it's open for grabs. I'll be making our reservation the moment I'm allowed to.

As it stands now, we have 7 definites:
Eric and Jen, Dave and his guest, John and Erin, Christine

There are currently 5 maybes: Greg and Greg's guest, Christine's guest, Elizabeth and Ian.

I'll post again tomorrow to keep you appraised.

Welcome to Oak Island!

This blog has been created to both quench my OKI fever and to keep everyone informed. It's going to be more efficient than emails, and it'll be a way for all of us to stay up-to-date with the latest. Upon confirmation, each person who's coming to OKI will be sent the screen name and password so everyone can add/edit as they like!
